What is the difference between search engines and directories?

Search Engines use sophisticated software to 'crawl' the internet. They are sometimes referred to as 'robots' or 'spiders' because they move from one site to the next via links, indexing all of the pages it comes across.

These 'spiders' and 'robots' are automated, but the length of time it takes for them to visit your site, and thus get listed in their search engines, can not be guaranteed. By submitting your URL's via DomainIt's Submit program, you are essentially telling the search engine 'Hey, I'm here!'... and thus speeding up the process.

Directories on the other hand employ no clever indexing software and rely entirely on URL's being submitted manually. Generally speaking a Directory requires more than just a web address (URL) and normally ask you to furnish information via a form. You will be asked to place your site in the correct category and supply keywords and descriptions. Because of this, directories must be done manually and cannot be submitted to via DomainIt's Submit program.
